Drummer Cup
Drummer is the cup fish this month. Paul Sinclair won the mystery fish at the last weigh-in with a small drummer so he may be the one to watch. Reigning Drummer Cup holder James Lloyd will be trying to put back to back cups on his mantelpiece.
Rules for 3-Way
I have been informed that under the Newport rules which will be applied during the 3-way competitions, once a fisherperson catches a fish outside, then all their fish will then be considered outside fish and therefore some will score fewer points. It may in this case be more prudent to either not weigh a small outside catch in or if you have a good estuary bag to avoid outside altogether. So you can weigh-in in deep sea or estuary but not both. One deep sea fish means all fish regardless are scored deep sea.
Trophy Benchmarks
The current trophy fish leaders are:
- Snapper 4.825kg Andrew Wiseman
- Tailor 0.9kg Mick Campbell
- Morwong 1.125kg Mick Campbell
- Flathead 1.425kg Chris Stokes
- Bream 0.9kg James Lloyd
August Results
The conditions on Saturday were ideal for deep sea activity and eight boats ventured through the heads. Richard Timbs took out the division with trevally, morwong, flathead and snapper. Mick Campbell took second with snapper, morwong and leatherjacket. Chris Elliott was third with his interim groper.
The estuary division was won by Tim Jackett with his record groper and 7.55kg of salmon. Mick Campbell was second with tailor, bream, salmon and trevally. Third was Andrew Wiseman with salmon and trevally.
The open division is being led by Richard Timbs (20 points) followed closely by his nemesis Andrew Wiseman (18 points). Mick Campbell is keeping in touch on 13 points.
Wiseman however is leading in the boat section. As captain of Sikaflex II he is choosing his first mates very carefully this season, doing away with some of his crew from last year for more fancied, youthful fisherman. This tactic may be working for him early in the season but as the year goes on, when the chips are down, that’s when the very men that he has rejected will rise to the challenge, will walk the extra kilometers, will take the most meritorious fish, will slice the corn of their own toe and catch a record fish using it as bait.
Jasper’s skipper Hing Han and mate Joe Berg positioned the boat in second on the back of a good flathead catch. They also took some leatherjacket. Walk On skippered by Mick Campbell came in third with a good catch including leatherjacket, salmon and trevally.
Overall boat leaders are Sikaflex II (26), Wild Wing (21), and Black Duck (16).
Overall deep sea leaders are Richard Timbs (21), Andrew Wiseman (16), Mick Campbell (16) & Steve Pollock (13).
Overall estuary leaders are James Lloyd (12), Tim Jackett (11), Richard Timbs (11), Mick Campbell (10), & Al Yendle (10).
Overall junior’s leaders are Thomas Kerr (21) & Matt Squire (11).
Overall open leaders are Richard Timbs (20), Andrew Wiseman (18) & Mick Campbell (13).

Interim Record Groper
Weigh Master Mark Boyle was very pleased with this month’s weigh-in of over 40kg of fish. It was twice the weight of last months weigh-in and he is hoping that the trend continues and we double or triple that in next month’s three-way tournament against Narrabeen RSL and Newport Arms.
Steve Pollock’s groper record (5.5kg) was beaten on Saturday by a delighted Chris Elliott who snuck in front of Steve’s record which he weighed-in after it was cleaned. Steve reckons his gropers guts would have made the difference and claimed the moral victory but the rumour spread quickly that Tim Jackett had landed a beast. Chris’s record may be the shortest standing record in the clubs history as Tim’s groper tipped the scales at 12.0075kg, smashing Chris’s record before the ink was dry.
Steve Pollock’s woes didn’t end there however as his cleaned Samson Fish (0.7kg) equaled the previous club record and therefore doesn’t get recorded. Club president Daniel Elliott advises that all members carry in a waterproof sleeve the records list that he recently handed out or commit the records to memory as has Mick Campbell, the man who brought this issue to the member’s attention at the weigh-in on Sunday.

Record Smashed
Steve Pollocks record groper has been smashed, twice in one week. More in monthly report.
Good Weigh-in
Weigh Master Mark Boyle was very pleased with this afternoons weigh-in. I arrived late but did notice a couple of big groper. Mark informed me that there was a good mix of species as well as the human type that weighed-in. More later in monthly report. Start sharpening your hooks for next months 3-way.
