Servicing your donk.
Whats this do? That’s the question I asked myself, before I pushed the little blue button, (the one that looked like it was supposed to be pushed), only to find that petrol was leaking out the side of a square thing next to my donks carburettor. That does’nt look good, I said, as I lit another cigarette. I’ve since been told that any small petrol leak can combust from internal sparks within the engine. Sounds about right.
The next question I asked myself, was who’s going to fix this? Not me. I have about as much chance of squeezing milk from a bull as I do learning the intricacies of outboard mechanics. So I took it upon myself to ask a few members in the club who they use to fix there motors. I asked Ian ( The Hornet) and Neil (Shearwater) who they use and found they both use a fellow down at RPAYC, a father and son affair I believe. Both are very happy with the price and service. Chris and Daniel Elliott along with Steve Pollock use Sam Wallrock a club member who works out of a brookvale establishment. I was told Sam offered a very thorough and proffesional service. I understand Andrew Wiseman and Micheal Beck use Tim Jackett, another club member who i did’nt know is a marine mechanic by trade and has his own business, Dark Horse Marine Services. Andrew has said he was very happy with Tims service and price after having not been satisfied previously with other marine mechanics. James Lloyd and Al Yendal Have told me of not so productive outcomes from previous work done on there thumpers. As have a few other fishermen.
It seems that it’s not trouble free when it comes to finding a reliable mechanic. I have certainly found it useful to ask around to get the varied opinion available from many of the members. As I’m about to service the bigboy, I’ll keep you informed as to my satisfaction.
Till next time, your roving reporter, The Flying Ant.
Anything written above is of a general nature and not to be tacken as proffessional advice. Good luck.
