Mullaway Snagged
Put your glasses down, the elusive Jewfish has been caught last Saturday night by the skillful Chris Stokes. Caught up river it weighed in at 7.45kg cleaned & earns him the Jewfish Cup for 2007/8.
Recipe of the month
Over the years I have always been drawn to the variety of flavours produced from mixing the right ingredients. Often it can be the harder times that produce that perfect taste. I remember a time living in a cave on the treacherous West Australian coast, miles from anything civilized. When food of any variety was scarce. Its times like these when desperation feeds desire.
Sick to the eyeballs of rice and rasberry cordial one of the marooned companions sought to change the mood that hung like a gastronomic cloud around meal times. After a lethargic drawn out game of cards to decide the chef of the night, the internationaly now famous Battered Zucchini was born. I believe it was the Fish Whisperer himself who in a famished state of insanity concocted this culinary delight.
I now have the pleasure of passing on another soon to be world acclaimed recipe of note.
No introduction I’m sure is required amongst club members when I mention the name Andrew Wiseman. Andrews cooking skills have taken him all over the world. He himself is respected for his ability not only in many of Sydney’s finest restuarants but also in far off countries, Switzerland included. So without further adulation I give you-
King Fish Steak in Banana Sauce:
Ingredients: 1 inch thick piece of king fish (cut into steak).
2 tbl spns of olive oil
1 large banana
1 lemon
pepper and salt
1/2 cup of cream
Method: Heat pan to hot and add fish to oil. Fry one side for 3-4 mins until crisp then turn and cook for 1-1/2 mins. Add sliced banana around fish and squeeze lemon onto banana. Season banana with salt and pepper. As lemon and banana infuse add cream. Once the cream has been added put on lid and cook for a further 1 min. Serve and ladel sauce over fish . He tells me its wonderful.
So until next time, your roving reporter, The Flying Ant.
Nelson’s Bay Preparation
Isn’t it great to see committed fishing club members putting in the extra work in the lead up to the Nelson’s Bay fishing tournament? On a recent early morning walk with dog Oscar, Steve & Gwyneth Pollock noticed a very buff young man running towards them. At closer quarters they realised that it was the ‘terrible Kip Elliott’. Steve inquired as to his modis operandi & his reply was returned with military precision “I’m in training for Nelson’s Bay”. With positions on this years tour in hot demand it will be the members who put in that extra effort that find themselves making the cut. Presenting some ‘colour’ to the fund managers early will also be of great advantage when it comes down to the crunch.
